Brewing Cinnamon Water
And when I say brew, I really mean boil. Anecdotally, watering your seedlings with cinnamon water can help minimize algae growth because of its anti-fungal and antimicrobial properties. Makes sense to me. So I cracked a few cinnamon sticks in a gallon or so of water and boiled it for about 20 minutes. Then I use that water in my spray bottle to water young seedlings. I don't know if it really makes a difference but it is an easy precaution that I can take to stop the problem of algae before it starts.

Winter Sowing in a Milk Jug
This is the first year I am trying to winter sow. It seemed like a lot of work for just a few seedlings. But I am motivated by the fact that once you get the seeds planted, there is virtually no other work needed.

Winter Sowing in a Plastic Tub
Of course, I immediately began to think how I could plant more than just a milk jugs worth of seeds. So I came across the tub idea and decided to give it a try. I seeded 20 Scabiosa and 20 Monarda Lambada. Fingers crossed!

Next Week ...
